CM Rekha Gupta
National News: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta faced a shocking incident today when she was attacked during her weekly public hearing at her official residence in Civil Lines. These hearings, called Jan Sunvai, are organized so that citizens can bring their problems directly to the Chief Minister.
According to officials and eyewitnesses, the attacker had come to the CM’s residence pretending to be a petitioner. Like other people, he was carrying papers and stood in line for his turn. When he reached near the Chief Minister, he first handed over his application but suddenly became aggressive. He started shouting, used abusive language, and then tried to physically attack Rekha Gupta. Witnesses claim that he pulled her hair and attempted to hit her before the security team could respond.

The police said the attacker was overpowered within seconds. Security guards caught him and handed him over to the Civil Lines police station. The man has been identified, and investigators are now trying to find out his background and exact motive.
Officials confirmed that Rekha Gupta did not suffer any serious injury in the incident. However, she was visibly disturbed as the attack happened in the middle of a crowd. After the scuffle, the CM was safely escorted inside her residence. Medical staff checked her, and she is reported to be fine.
The police have registered a case and are questioning the accused. A senior officer said that the preliminary inquiry suggests the man was upset over some personal grievance, but further investigation is still going on.
The attack quickly triggered strong political reactions in the capital. Leaders from her party, the BJP, condemned the incident and said that such violence cannot be tolerated in a democracy. They also demanded stricter security arrangements for the Chief Minister during public events.
Opposition leaders too expressed concern, saying that no matter what political differences exist, attacking a public representative is completely unacceptable. Many social media users also reacted, calling the incident shameful and dangerous.
Delhi Police has increased security around the Chief Minister’s residence following the incident. The administration is reviewing how such a person was able to enter the Jan Sunvai with violent intentions. Officials said they may introduce tighter checks and more security staff in future hearings to prevent similar situations.
The Chief Minister is expected to continue her public meetings, but her team has assured citizens that safety will now be given the highest priority.
